I am interested in the influence of light pollution on navigation in seabirds. Fledglings from the family Procellariidae are known to ground in areas polluted by light. Due to the fact that their legs are far back in their body, they are not able to take off and they need a gust of wind or a long runway to start their flight again. That’s why they need to be helped and volunteers all around the world collect those birds, and release them back on their migration route. It is not yet well understood what are the reasons for those birds to ground and I would like to get closer to the answer during my DPhil.
