Cecilia Karlsson

I am a jointly BBSRC and St. John’s College funded DPhil student on the Interdisciplinary Bioscience DTP.

Research Interests:

My main research interest is in understanding three-dimensional spatial cognition of different animal systems. I am particularly interested in elucidating any differences in horizontal and vertical metric encoding of space in fish that swim freely in three dimensions compared to animals such as rats and mice that are constrained to navigating along surfaces. As well as studying the behavioural basis of spatial cognition, I hope to extend into investigating neural mechanisms of 3D navigation through electrophysiology experiments on freely moving rats. For my DPhil project I will be supervised by Dr. Theresa Burt de Perera, with the hope of collaboration with Prof. Kate Jeffery in the Department of Psychology at UCL.

Education:

2012-2015: BA Biological Sciences, University of Oxford
